August 2017 · Monthly Wrap Up

August Wrap Up | 2017

Oh boy oh boy. Hello everybody. Let’s start out with some life updates, shall we?

◦I moved back to school last Sunday (Aug 27). Wah, school! So I hope that explains my lack of blog posts. I’m the type of person who gets really overwhelmed by any sort of change, so right now I’m all over the place.

◦First day of classes was…my birthday (Aug 28). How awesome, thanks college! 😀 Haha but honestly I’m used to this, my birthday is always the first day of school. On the bright side, my friend bought me a baby cake, which I ate all of. No regrets.

◦ My kitties have grown exponentially and I’m horribly sad to not be able to be there to watch them grow anymore 😦

~Reviews coming for the unlinked books semi-soon~

favorite book of the monthI’m doing what I did last month and choosing two books because THEY WERE BOTH REALLY GOOD OKAY.

The Raven King was the end of The Raven Cycle series so it will hold a special place in my heart forever, and Fire was just such a beautiful romantic fantasy, and I love the world in this series.

This was a very easy choice. Really didn’t care for this book, I can’t understand the hype around it!

So I have a funny story about Wonder Woman: Warbringer.

So I heard about this book coming out a bit later than everyone, and knew I really wanted to preorder it so I could have it the day it came out. So I went on Amazon, placed a preorder, and realized that there were signed versions! But they were all sold out! 😦 I was really bummed because I really wanted an autograph from Leigh Bardugo, but whatever. What could I do?

So, August 29th comes and I get the book, awesome. Thanks Amazon. Then later that day I get an email from Barnes and Noble… “Your book has shipped!”

…Huh? What book? I click the email… “Wonder Woman: Warbringer (Signed Edition)”

WHAAAA? WHEN THE HELL DID I DO THAT? I really have no clue. But I’m really glad I did, haha.

So end of the story, now I have two copies. But I’m actually happy with this turn of events because now I can put the signed one on a pedestal and never disturb it, and I will read the unsigned one 🙂 Woohoo!

So that’s it! I hope everyone had a great August, have an even better September!

  1. Awesome post! I read Coraline in August too! I read Graceling in August too, can’t wait to continue the series but I’m struggling with whether to buy it or not! Also, I loved Ready Player One! I read the audiobook a while back and really enjoyed it. And The Raven Cycle is one of my favourite series!

And I have done the same thing before too! I pre-ordered Fantastic Beasts months before it came out and then completely forgot about it! So then I preordered it a couple weeks before it released so I would get it straight away and then I received two in the mail! Luckily, Mum decided to buy my spare copy off me because she is a Harry Potter fan too so all was well haha.

    1. I really loved Graceling, so much that I found the mythical hardcovers of the series 😂 Graceling and Fire are books that after I finished them, I couldn’t stop thinking about them! I’ve heard mix reviews about Bitterblue though so I’m nervous to start it!

& I actually just listened to my first audiobook, and it was Harry Potter! I couldn’t believe how good it was. Stephen Fry was a great narrator! Ready Player One must have been awesome as an audiobook!

& Hahaha I guess we’re both just too on top of our preorders 😅 I wouldn’t put it past me to do it again!

      1. My only issue with the Graceling series is that I bought Graceling off Thriftbooks. So it’s the original edition with the dagger on the cover. I want matching covers but with the shipping cost on Thriftbooks to Aus it’s just not worth it as it can end up about $10 AUD per book and I can get brand new ones for $12-$15. So I can’t decide to just get the next two books on eBook or just get the new editions of the whole set. 🤔

And Harry Potter was my first audiobook too! Stephen Fry is perfect for that series! And Wil Wheaton was perfect for Ready Player One too! It’s the main reason I decided to start it and I was not disappointed!

And I don’t think I will again as I don’t generally pre-order books unless they are Harry Potter related haha. I have only ever pre-ordered 2 books and they are Fantastic Beasts and Obsidio! The only reason I pre-ordered Obsidio was to enter the comp that Jay was running to get your name in the book! So hopefully I will never make this mistake again haha. 😂😂😂

      2. Oh I understand, I need all of my books to have matching covers as well! I prefer the original covers more, I hate when books get new covers so finding the original ones are impossible! As someone who buys too many books, I’m going to a bad influence and say…get new editions of the whole set!😂

I’m so excited to listen to the rest of the Harry Potter series on audiobook! It’s such a new experience listening to them. I have a 5 hour drive tomorrow so I’m definitely going to get through a large chunk of Chamber of Secrets, haha!

And oh, that’s so cool! I’d totally do that too, that’s a great way to get people to pre-order your book 😂

      3. Well I do prefer the look of the new editions. I like the original cover for Graceling but the other two I don’t particularly like.

That’s awesome! Travelling is always the best time!

And it is. He did it for Gemina too! At one point in the book there is a huge list of all the civilians that have been killed since the start of the book and that’s where the names will be. You can find Jays name in it too.

  2. That kitty vid = all the smiles! Happy belated birthday and I hope you have a very successful school year! Fire is probably my favorite of the series. She is, in my opinion, the strongest heroine of the bunch. I thought the last book of the Raven Cycle was good. I was happy with how it ended, were you?

    1. Thank you! 🙂 I loved Fire and Katsa both so much, I can’t even decide which book I like best. Kristin Cashore is so good at writing strong female characters! I’ve heard mixed feelings about Bitterblue so I’m nervous to start that.

For The Raven Cycle, I was pretty happy with the ending. There were some things I wish had more of a conclusion, and the ending itself, I wish it had been more worked into the overall plot, I guess? I don’t know how to talk about it without giving spoilers, haha!

      1. Bitterblue wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t as powerful as the previous two books. I felt like the series, which came in with a BOOM, went out with a whisper.
